Panoramica
Motion, Rhythm, and Material
Rob and Nick Carter’s latest series marks a compelling evolution in their career-long fascination with the intersection of mechanics and traditional craftsmanship. At the heart of this collection is a custom-built ‘running machine’ designed by the artists to rotate the canvas at controlled speeds. As the machine dictates the tempo, layers of spray paint, and acrylic, are applied by hand, resulting in a highly tactile, process-led body of work that explores the concept of material intimacy.
This series navigates the tension between mechanical rhythm and human intuition. The hypnotic vertical bands serve as a visual record of temporal repetition, utilising a lush, saturated palette to examine how light and pigment interact across a moving surface.
‘Our focus was on the alchemy of movement. The final work is more than a painting; it is the kinetic residue of a high-speed performance, where the machine’s rotation distills the art of repetition into a vibrant, physical form.’
