Part of Rob and Nicky's early series of ‘Grid Pictures’, ‘Happy Together’ is evidence of the collision of their independent scholarship of art history and painting (Nicky at Goldsmiths) and photography (Rob).
This particular piece was made in 1999, and only recently framed in 2023.
The graphic quality of the boldly coloured work belies the ‘handmade’ quality of the piece- light sensitive paper is set to spin on a potters wheel, and small amounts of glass paint added during exposure creates organic splashes at odds with the geometric grid formation.
